Mexico Concacaf Nations League Predictions: Who Will Tata Martino Choose

Jonathan Gonzalez is having the most difficult time of his career due to injury and unfavorable coaching decisions. This season, the 20-year-old midfielder wore Mexico soccer team jersey during only one league match. Nevertheless, the US-born professional footballer is optimistic about his future in the Mexico national football team.

Many young players like Gonzalez dream to be an option for El Tri manager when he is choosing a team for the Concacaf Nations League. They are hopeful because Tata Martino had earlier given hint of picking a young squad for the new competition.

  • Why A Young Team?

Mexico is all set for its debut in 2019–20 Concacaf Nations League, traveling to Bermuda for a match on October 11 against the Bermuda national football team.

El Tri manager Tata Martino is all set to welcome young players to the team for Concacaf Nations League. After the recent 4-0 defeat against Argentina, he said that his plans had not been to use young players but to spend more time observing them.

According to Martino, his idea is not to have many players who played the Concacaf Gold Cup. That means some well-known names may miss the Concacaf Nations League while a few new faces can wear Mexico soccer jersey this season.

Who Will Martino Pick?

Though Martino is very secretive about the blend of players, there are some best guesses by experts for how the El Tri manager may mix star players with the new talents.

  • Forwards

When it comes to picking the best forward line for the Concacaf Nations League, Martino may go for hard hitters. Hirving Lozano and Jesus Corona are two names that Martino can include in his list of forward line players.

After the Argentina game, the manager said in a press conference that Lozano and Corona are forwards rather than midfielders. Both players have a defined role in their respective clubs. Also, they are believed to be a part of the Mexico national football team for the next World Cup, thanks to their age. This may be a reason Martino may want Lozano and Corona in his team.

Apart from these two, others on the list can be Alexis Vega, Jose Juan Macias, and Jesus Godinez.

  • Midfielders

Érick Aguirre has recently attended mini-camps by the manager, and Jonathan González, 20, has managed to enter the Mexico national football team. Jesús Angulo, 21, has impressed with his four goals this season. These three are expected to get a place in Martino’s list of midfielders for the upcoming seasons.

Others who may succeed to be on the list are Orbelin Pineda and Ivan Rodriguez.

  • Defenders

Miguel Layun, one of the most experienced members in the squad, is believed to hold the position and lead Martino’s young team. Apart from Layun, Luis Romo, Gerardo Arteaga, and Jesus Angulo are expected to be picked by Martino for the upcoming season. Gerardo Arteaga and Jesus Angulo were a part of Martino's mini-camps.

  • Goalkeepers

Guillermo Ochoa and Jonathan Orozco! Memo is known for his skills, while Martino gave plenty of opportunities to Orozco in the recent past. Without any doubt, Guillermo Ochoa will be a part of the team. Will the El Tri manager pick Orozco to test him again or go for a young goalkeeper?

In this category, Martino has choices in the form of Raul Gudino, Hugo Gonzalez, and Sebastian Jurado.

Wrap Up

During his recent interviews, the El Tri manager has hinted that he may bring some young players from abroad to add versatility to the team. Who will make to Martino’s list and wear Mexico team jersey this Concacaf season?
